There are so many diets that exist on the market these days that picking a diet that works for you and your weight loss can be challenging for many reasons.
Well, I came across the alkaline diet online and decided to do further research. The alkaline diet is also known as the alkaline ash diet or the alkaline acid diet. Some websites with information about the alkaline diet also sell courses, books, supplements, alkaline infused water, food, and drinks. However, these items are not required for you to follow the diet.
So, why choose the alkaline diet over other diets? Let’s get a better understanding...
First, it is important to understand that alkaline foods are foods that raise the amount of oxygen that your blood takes in. The most alkalizing foods are raw green leafy vegetables, non-sweet fruits and wheat grasses.
Alkaline Promoting Foods – fruits (watermelon, avocado, cucumber, young coconuts), raw green leafy vegetables, wheatgrass, soybeans, tofu, some nuts, seeds, legumes, fresh herbs & spice (parsley, basil, cilantro, cayenne, ginger), sprouts (alfalfa, mung bean, broccoli)
On the other hand, the opposite of alkaline foods are acid foods. Our blood is in balance when we’re slightly alkaline with a pH of 7.365. Unfortunately, if our blood cannot absorb enough oxygen we get sick: cancer, heart issues, arthritis, infections, diabetes are the result. So, why are we too acidic? We are acidic due to stress, toxins, parasites, and the food we eat.
Simply put, the foods you are supposed to eat while on the alkaline diet are good for you and will support a healthy weight loss along with drinking plenty of water. The alkaline diet, like any other diet, has pros and cons. Before you try this diet or any other diet, please be sure to consult with your physician.
Bottom line, the alkaline diet would be difficult for most people to follow due to the many food restrictions. In addition, there is nothing written about exercise requirements while doing the alkaline diet which concerns me since it is recommended that we get at least 150 minutes of exercise each week.
For me, I say thumbs down to the alkaline diet. I would rather exercise daily, track my exercise and food, and eat a variety of foods in moderation while working toward a healthy weight loss.
