Talking about weight loss and shedding pounds are difficult enough, but try asking a family member or friend to join you on your weight loss journey is even harder. However, your chances of shedding pounds and keeping it off are best when you have a workout buddy to go along with you for the ride.
Before you and your workout buddy start your journey together, here are some tips to help both of you succeed:
Tip #1 – Determine how much weight you want to lose and set a realistic goal. Get on the scale and write down your current weight. Then, decide on how much weight you want to lose and set a realistic goal. Then, write this information down and share it with your workout buddy.
Tip #2 – Identify the reason(s) why you gained the weight and make a plan to stay on track. This gives you a historical perspective of one another and helps you come to grips with how you may have tripped up in the past.
Tip #3 – Communicate with your workout buddy daily via phone, email, or text to discuss your highs and lows. It’s important to discuss your high point(s) often with your partner, so you can recognize your strengths and be validated. On the other hand, by discussing your low point(s), you’ll be filling your workout buddy in on what you need to watch out for.
Tip #4 - Exchange your daily meal plans the night before and stick with it. Knowing in advance what you’re going to eat will eliminate guesswork throughout the day and keep you from making poor food choices.
Tip #5 – Commit to donating your clothes that no longer fit. By donating your old clothes or giving them away, you’re creating a new identity for yourself and making the statement: “I’m never going to be there again.”
A workout buddy can model good behavior as well as offer empathy and encouragement along the way. So, always remember that teaming up with a workout buddy will help you beat the odds together by losing twice the weight in record time.
